In most cases, the cam position sensor in the distributor fails online and does not work properly. This sensor is like the crazy position sensor that was lacking normally, from beginning to end. I saw one that tries for a limited range, then fall flat causing the device to isolate the bottom, but when it cooled, you can start the engine again with the same results. My occasionly acclimated to miss this RMP vary, but kept thriving. Then he started to close without warning. I was getting changed to different sensor Cam Pos Pos Sensore or nuts, but took off the distributor and rotor to consider. They were exhausted and I had never changed so I replaced the two. It has not failed or stopped since. To be sure good to try and buy cheaply and welcoming to pass.

Like Dave said , also you can divide the nutter sensor connector and moreover the stubbornness , should be 1k - 1.5k ohms . The cam sensor can be visually inspected by removing the compensate for from the cam pass and removing the bilk holding the sensor in go on and cull the sensor out . If there are scrape marks in the sensor channel the sensor is quite bad , also the cam bearings are quite at misbehaviour to blame . 1999 was a BAD year for Harley because of the cam reference failures . You can assay each of those devices with a VOM. Apply to the preferred protuberance to the one that looks like an arrow conk; testing semi-conductors. Now unplug the item in indubitably and categorize the probes one to each connection. It should know voltage in one running only. This occurs when boundary voltage is reached then collapsed. You should not get a reading when the probes are reversed.Bear in mind the VOM has a battery of it's own to work these tests.
